What is Second Helpings?
Second Helpings accepts donated perishable and overstocked food to prepare nutritious meals for thousands of hungry children and adults every day, and distributes them free of charge through local social service agencies in Greater Indianapolis. Second Helpings also trains unemployed and underemployed adults for meaningful careers in the culinary industry.
How can I help?
This Holiday season there are a few things they need to have on hand for the kitchen — pasta, specifically elbow macaroni and spaghetti, spices of all kinds and plain white rice. Also, cash donations help them feed Indy’s hungry during these cold months:
- $21 feeds a child each day in an after school program for 1 month
- $63 gives children a healthy meal in a low-income day care center for a day
- $126 delivers nutritious meals for a single day to a shelter for families in crisis
